In this globalization era, there have been so many kinds of transportation which are really useful in human’s life, for example cars. I saw two cars that have been parked in front of Q3 building this evening, there were Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga. Both cars look different at first glance. The differences between those two cars were in brand, color, price and of course number plate. When I saw the Avanza I directly felt an interest in it. It had silver color that made it looks beautiful. As one of the best cars, it also has a high price. The price was for about Rp. 170.000.000. The last thing I saw from the car was the number plate which was mounted on lower part of the car. The number plate was N 1846 CJ. Beside the Avanza, was also parked an Ertiga which has red color. It was looked brighter than the Avanza. It’s price was around Rp. 175.000.000. I also saw it’s number plate from the place where I stood up. The number place was N 386 GC. They also have the same thing in exterior, interior and their function. Let me saw Toyota Avanza from the exterior. The color was resembled to a spoon, It was silver colored minivan. It measures about 4 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width, and 1.6 meters in height. Like most minivan, it has a hood, 3 rear windows, 2 doors on each side, and a door on it backside.  Now let me gave a look on it interior. Just like most minivan it has 2 seats on in front, 3 in the middle, and also 3 seats at the back side that can be folded. For entertainment media, it has a built in audio system. Toyota Avanza also has an air conditioner like most of modern cars. Now let me talked about overall function of this car. It is a minivan car, so that it used for traveling with people. The car is suitable for traveling with family or friends, and it is comfortable enough to fit up to 8 people inside it. It was a good car for traveling, but it can not go well in off road. This car was still able to travel on dirt road, but not a road with a rough surface.  Now let me continue to the second car. The second car is Suzuki Ertiga. From the outside or the exterior, we could see it has red color. For the measurement 4 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width and also in height. Same as Toyota Avanza, it has a hood, 3 rear windows, 2 doors on each side, and a door on the backside. For the interior, it has 2 seats in first row, 3 seats in the second row, and 3 seats in the last row the last row seats can be folded. As a minivan as common, the overall function is suitable for traveling with family or friends. Approximately 8 people can get into this car. Same like Toyota Avanza, this Suzuki Ertiga will not be able to travel in rough road. In brief, Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga have differences and similarities in a few ways.

In this globalizationera, there has been so many kinds of transportations, which are useful in human’s life. A car is one of them.  This is an example of car transportation that I saw in front of my class some days ago. When I looked out the windows, I found two cars were parked near my class.  They are Avanza and Ertiga. At a glance, they looked similar. However, they are different inseveral things. First of all, I will tell you about the similarity of those cars. I have divided it into three identical parts: interior, exterior, and function. Avanza and Ertiga are equal in their interior. They have two seats in front, which are on the right side on the driver’s seat and the left on the passenger, three seats in the middle, and threebackseats that can be folded. The position of the rear view mirror, steering wheel, gearshift, and the handbrake are also similar. They are in the front, surely near the driver’s seat. For the entertainment media, they have a built-in audio system and an air conditioner like most modern car in common. Next, the exterior of Avanza has similarity with Ertiga. Both cars are minivan. Avanza’s trunk is at the back and so is Ertiga. The hood of those cars is in front, where the engines are.  The codes of their license plates, which show car area, are the same. That is N for Malang city. Last, the function of Avanza is just the same as Ertiga. They are types of family car so they are suitable for travelling. Conversely, they cannot be driven for travelling over rough ground. To sum up, Avanza and Ertiga are alike in several ways. In other hand, those cars had some differences, which can be classified in four aspects; those are brand name, colour, price, and plate number.   The first dissimilarity which is very clear, is the brand name.  The car on the right side is Toyota Avanza.  We can find the brand name on the backside of the car’s body.  It is on the left side and below the back screen.  While the other car on the left side is Suzuki Ertiga.  The easiest way to know the brand name is by looking for it on the backside of the car’s body.  You will see the word “Ertiga” as the brand name of the car.  The next distinction between those two cars is the colour.  We can see it clearly.  Toyota Avanza is the one with a black colour.  In a contrast, Suzuki Ertiga has a silver colour.  From the price, we can also find the difference.  Toyota Avanza is worth about Rp 170.000.000.  Whereas Suzuki Ertiga has a price which is a little bit more expensive, it is about Rp 175.000.000. The other dissimilarity from those two cars is the number plate.  The number plate of Toyota Avanza is N 1846 CJ.  On the other hand, Suzuki Ertiga’s number plate is N 386 GC.  In brief, although those cars have equality in some aspects, they will have different features due to their different brand name and price so that customers are supposed to choose their own transportation selectively.

[Order of Step]

To conduct the classroom activity in the process of teaching speaking, one method that can be used is Genre Based Approach. The activities of Genre Based Approach consist of 4 stages. Each stage has its own purpose and activity. The first stage is Building Knowledge of Field (BKoF). This stage focuses on building up a shared experience and cultural context about the topic of speaking. For example, in this case the topic is pollution. We as a teacher can ask students to talk about what they know regarding pollution. In this step they can talk and share about each other’s thought on pollution. They can talk about kinds of pollution, what causes pollution, and the effect of pollution. At the end of this step, students are expected to know about pollution in general. The second is Modeling of Text (MoT). This step introduce a particular genre though a model of speaking that deals with the field that the students have already explored in the stage of building knowledge of field. Again, we use pollution as the topic. After students have the general knowledge about pollution, we can give them the knowledge about how to deliver information through speaking. We can give them how to keep on a topic, how to organize words in speaking, or even basic of speaking such as pronunciations. The next stage is Join Construction of Text (JCoT). The students are already familiar with all of the features of a particular genre, a teacher and students work together to construct speaking that are similar to the model that have already being learnt in the previous stage. In constructing the text, attention should be paid to the schematic structure, linguistic features and knowledge of the field of speaking. We still use pollution as an example. In this step, students should already talk and share each other experience regarding of pollution and also know how to deliver information through speaking. It is expected that they can combine how to deliver information about pollution through speaking with correct schematic structures and linguistic features. The final stage is Independent Construction of Text (ICoT). The students are ready to work independently to produce their own speaking within the chosen genre. Let the students work on their own. In other words, a teacher should minimize their support, scaffolding and interference on students learning process. Continuing the example before, hope that in this step students already have more knowledge about pollution, have the knowledge about how to deliver information through speaking, and is apply to apply both correctly. However, the students not only able to apply it correctly, but also expected to be able to do that by themselves. In brief, Genre Based Approach is a method of knowledge that makes students more active by exploring the content by themselves, and is also make students less dependent on other students and teacher because they are expected to be able to construct a text by themselves at the end.

English is one of very important languages that must be studied. Nowadays, many countries in the world such as Indonesia make some new programs to make the education better. In order to raise the quality of education in Indonesia, it founds such a school with international standards. It called RSBI (International School to be) and SBI (International School). RSBI is a school toward an International School that prepares the students based on the national standards of Indonesian and international level, so that graduates are expected to have the capability of international competition.
Because in Indonesia there were many people who have a capability to send their children study abroad in 1990, Indonesian government thought to open such an International School. The first standing of RSBI was in the end of 1999. In 1999 the Indonesian government gave more special attention to education in Indonesia. The national minister of education (KEMENDIKNAS) wanted to build high quality schools as a center of education. In 2000, KEMENDIKNAS started to establish an international standard school. Indonesia wanted to have an international confession toward the quality of process and the rest of the education, so KEMENDIKNAS made a new rule it was article 50 paragraph (3) of Law No. 20 Year 2003 about the inauguration of RSBI. Finally with all of judgment, KEMENDIKNAS officially open RSBI on 2005 with some hard requirements for school which wanted to become International School Stub (RSBI) or International School (SBI).
People must have a lot of money to be in RSBI or SBI. Because the quality of RSBI and SBI are very good, that is why the payment is also expensive. The significant different payment level between regular and international schools is shown by the tuition in both kinds of school. Look the table of the payment comparison of RSBI and Regular School! (http://www.mahkamahkonstitusi.go.id.pdf)
Cost
Regular School
RSBI (International School)
Monthly
First year
Second year
Third year
Rp. 150.000
Rp. 5.000.000
Rp. 1.000.000
Rp. 800.000
Rp. 425.000
Rp. 31.000.000
Rp. 24.000.000
Rp. 18.000.000

Besides, the facilities in RSBI are more complete than in regular schools either physical or non physical. For example, RSBI uses the bilingual system in process of studying.
Because of the high cost, some of societies are glad with that new program of education system, but some not. It contains pros and cons, many effects come from this problem. The positive effects help the pros to stay with their argument. The first good effect is about quality. For example RSBI has good qualities of teachers. 70% of teachers are required to get S2 degree. Not only that, all teachers must have an ability to speak English fluently. They help the students easier in studying English or even general subject. Another good effect is about human race. International Schools create a global rivalry in term of education. The output of RSBI will be ready to face a global rivalry. Another advantage is about other countries’ educational view of Indonesia. Indonesia will have a good point of education if it has many high quality schools.
After several years of the establishing of RSBI, many bad effects of it grow up. One of the effects is about social aspect. There is a social discrimination between rich people and poor people. Because of the high cost, poor people cannot pay the tuition and never study there. This financial aspect is not relevant with the article 31 paragraph (2) of UUD 1945 which explains that every child must have an education and the government should pay for it. Another bad side is about nationality. Either the teachers or the students have to speak English every time in every possible room, such as in classrooms, teacher offices, libraries, and laboratories. It means that students will rarely speak Bahasa Indonesia. They do not have enough time to speak thru their mother tongue. It will decrease the using of Bahasa Indonesia and may kill the nationality of Indonesian gradually. The most frightening thing is when our cultures especially Bahasa Indonesia disappear, when every body speak English and forget their culture. Another bad thing is about the written law. There is no written rule that protects an International School to be. Many schools are built with the international status and high cost, but the qualities are not as good as the status. Because there are many problems and unclear things about International School Stubs, finally on January 2013 the Constitutional Court (MK) invalidated Article 50 paragraph (3) of Law No. 20 Year 2003 on National Education System which is arranging the International School Stubs (RSBI) and International School (SBI). The National Minister of education directly erased RSBI on January 2013.
In addition, International and Regular Schools have the same purpose. They produce the best graduates in different ways. Actually our government already expended many ways in order to make the education system in Indonesia better. Therefore, school must appreciate them by obeying the government rules.

Nowadays most children like to spend their time watching some TV programs. It is alright if they are under parents’ control, but if not, what will happen next? Actually children’s TV watching has several good and bad effects. Lets talk about the bad effects first. The first aspect that is included in bad effects is social aspect. Children will be addicted to watch TV all the time. They often do the other important activity like helping parents, talking with relations, or even playing outdoor games with friends because they waste the time to watch some TV programs. They become rarely to speak because they do not have spare time to communicate with their environment. It is bad for their social development. Another aspect is physically aspect. Children’s position while they watch TV will influence their physically development. They spent a lot of time just sitting in front of TV. They do not move their body. It will make a bad effect of their bone’s health especially the back bone. In their age, body health is very important for their movement. Another aspect is affective. Always watching the same TV program will make children imitate their idol’s attitude. For example if they watch cartoon serials (Sinchan, dragon ball), they will imitate his bad attitude, like speaking impolitely to the old people, peeing in a wrong place, etcetera. Event though there are so many disadvantages of children’s TV watching, it still has good effects. One of the aspects that is included as the advantages of children’s TV watching is creation. For example if they watch TV serial Bocah Petualang, their creativity will develop. They can make a new game by themselves, for example making a robot from useless bottles. Then they will develop their innovation to make something new and unique. Another aspect is motivation. There are so many famous kid stars in TV. They will be motivated to be like them. They will develop their ability like acting, singing, dancing, drawing, attracting etcetera. Another aspect is intelligent. If they watch education programs like Dora, Ranking 1,Education Channel, and so on, their knowledge will rise. They learn about something indirectly. For example they study about space, nature, geography etcetera. In addition, there are positive and negative effects of children’s TV watching that will influence children’s development in some aspects. Therefore, parents must be selective to choose the suitable TV programs for their child’s development.

It is important to try to use English in a classroom as much as possible so that we can maximize our practice in learning English. Most experts recommend using English at least 90% in the class. Why it is not 100%? Because there are some difficulties of learning second languages especially English. Here are some factors why do not the students use English effectively in class. First, it is about vocabulary. There are many English learners who feel hard to build up their vocabulary. Because there are so many vocabulary in English that hard to be remembered and memorized. It makes the learners more careful to choose the right word in arranging sentences. Another trouble factor is about grammar. English grammar is too hard to be learned. There are so many rules to make a sentence in English. For example there are gerunds, infinitives, noun, pronoun, many kinds of tenses, and many others. Too many rules in making sentences makes the learners feel confuse and do not like to learn more about English grammar. Another tough factor is about confidence to practice speaking. Many students feel uncomfortable to speak English. They are afraid to make mistakes on pronunciation. Nevertheless, there are many difficulties that make students do not speak English 100% in class. Thus, teacher’s role is very important to help the students build their ability in English.
