Avansa and Ertiga

            Avansa and Ertiga are kinds of brand cars. I saw those two cars in front of my class last week. At a glance, they looked different. However, they are similar to several things. I divided into three identical  parts: interior, exterior, and function. First of all, Avansa and Ertiga are equal  in their interior. They have two seats in the front which are on the right side for the driver’s seat and the left for the passenger, three seats in the middle, and also three seats at the backside that can be folded. The position of the rear view mirror, steering wheel, gear shift, and  handbrake are also similiar. They are in the front, surely near the driver’s seat. For the entertainment media, they have built-in audio system and air conditioner like most modern cars in common. Next, the exterior of Avansa has similarity with Ertiga. Both cars are minivan. Avansa’s trunk is at the back and so is Ertiga. The hood of those cars is in the front where the engines are in.  The codes of their license plates , which show car area, are same. That is N for Malang city. Last, the function of Avansa is just the same as Ertiga. They are types of family cars. For that reason, they are suitable for travelling. Conversely, they cannot be driven for travelling over rough ground. To sum up, Avansa and Ertiga are alike in several ways. I suggest you before deciding to travel by car, just assure that you drive the right car because of its capability to pass over the field.

GBA on English Skill Listening Learning

Education policy for English language teaching in Indonesia has been changed to improve the outcomes of English language teaching itself. One of the curriculum which has been implemented is Genre Based Approach. It is defined a genre as systemic functional linguistics that is concerned with the relationship between language and its function in social settings.There are four steps in GBA to be implemented in the teaching listening. The first step is Building Knowledge of Field (BkoF). This step aims to equalize general knowledge, background, or perception the students have. The teacher has to deliver the introduction about the material that she or he is going to teach to his or her students. The teacher and students build cultural context, share experiences, discuss vocabulary, and so on. For instance they are going to learn about ‘Job Interview’, so the teacher has to explain them what it is about in general about a job interview. The second step is called Modelling of Text (MoT). The teacher could use a conversation, dialogue, talk show program, etc. as the material in listening teaching. This material will be useful for students to learn deeper about an interview. It may include much information about kinds of interview, what the things must be prepared before facing an interview, or the questions might be asked in the interview. So, the more information given by the teacher, the better students’ comprehension might have. In addition, the teacher could give other examples of interview. For instance an interview about selection for exchange student program. In short, at the second stage, students listen and respond to various interviews with similar communicative purposes. The third step is called as Join Construction of Text (JcoT). This step will be useful to gain a brainstorm of students’ opinion. From this step, students are supposed to have an open minded through discussing in the listening section. After students have knowledge about the material, the teacher is supposed to give an instruction to the students of the class to divide into some groups. The groups will discuss about some favourite jobs they want and the responsibilities of each job then they should present what they get. So every student also involved in the speaking and listening process. The fourth step is Independent Construction of text (ICoT). In this final stage, students are ready to work independently to improve their ability in listening. The teacher can let students work on their own. In other words, teachers should minimize their support, scaffolding and interference with students learning process. It will provide students with the opportunity to show their ability to strengthen their skill in listening to some interview questions which might be faced in the future. How far students’ ability and knowledge can be sharpened by doing such an examination or answering questions given by the teacher. The question will measure their comprehension in this material process. It also gains students’ confidence and independence. Briefly, the teacher is able to command her or his students to have a high English skill in listening by using the right step to improve and increase students’ comprehension. Therefore, Genre Based Approach is recommended to be applied to improve English skill listening at learning process.



My Future Husband

                   Sooner or later, we will get married. In my mind, an ideal husband should meet several criteria, three of which are religious, smart, and respectful. My future husband should have same believe or religion with me. Religious guy means he must be on time when prays five times in a day. He must love his God. Follow the God’s directions and never doing forbidden things. My mother would not give her permit if my husband has different believe or religion with me. My future husband also must be smart. Smart in this case not always clever but educated. Learn from experiences. Smart means he knows how to communicate with other people, has a good joke, knows how to love me, can manage his life well, and surely has a good occupation. Because if we married smart guy, we are not suppose to be worried with our future. With his smartness, he can lead his family well. The last thing that should be important for guy to have is respectful. We can’t build family without love. He must respect me, not only me but also my whole family. For example, when my family got a problem he must help to find out a solution and solve it. Because, marriage is not just about married a couple but also married two whole families of them. I hope we could help out as the time goes by. I like to have a husband who loves to help each others. He also must be patient when I do mistake. In this case, I recognize myself as a careless girl. I mean, it is difficult for me to take care of other people problems who I did not know well. So, my future husband should be patient if someday he found my weaknesses. In brief, he must have a good thinking so he can catch up every obstacles in his life with his strong believe, good mind set and of course with his love. Therefore, I want to be matured and educated well from now on so I could become valuable or precious to be married.

         We believe that children learn English by using it in their daily activities especially in schools. Children will spend a lot of time to practice their ability through having an interaction with their friends. English is a language that is spoken around the world. Having all the four of English soft skills will help them to improve their knowledge. Children will have an additional information through study English, ease them to learn subjects in every grade of their schools. So, do we still assuming that they do not need to learn and study English ?
            Everything has a bad and good side also learning at the early age. We cannot see only the good side of something or the bad side of it. We have both to compare whether we are true or wrong. I am going to explain the advantages and the disadvantages of learning English for Children. I will mention three advantages from general point of view and also two points from the disadvantages. The first point from the advantages is well communication. They will have enough confidence while using English when they speak. It will develop an understanding that there is more than one way to interact with people. Second, they will have a great confidence. Children always discover new things, but learning a new language is uniquely rewarding. A second language can spur them on to a deeper and broader passion for learning in general. Third is the greater opportunity. Colleges nowadays place an increasingly high value on knowledge of more than one language. Children’s carrier opportunities will be greater in an increasingly globalised market. Then, I will spell out the two disadvantages of learning English. First, English is a language that is difficult to learn. English has a various words that sound one way and are spelled another. Words in a sentence can receive different stresses to change the meaning of the sentence. Second, learning English takes time. Learning English at the age of children is little difficult to practice because children tend to play rather than learning even a foreign language. They still do not understand that English is really important to learn from the early age for their bright future.
We can make our lives good if we do everything in its order. Everything that is put in order needs steps. So, steps are really important things we have to look to get a perfect destination or goal. For further explanation, I am going to elaborate four steps that parents can use to lead their children in learning English. First, get used to communicate with English. “Could be due to normal”, it should be kept in parents’ minds who want to teach their children an English language at the early age. The solution is parents have to buy books which include simple conversation in English. Second, teach your children many vocabularies in English. For example, at the time your child was thirsty, parents give their child drink and said it in English as “milk”. If parents do this often, children will get used to hearing that word and know what does it means. Of course children will know more than the others. Third, if children love to watch cartoons, find a cartoon which uses English language. The funny films and interesting pictures are definitely like by children. Fourth, if parents have a computer in their home, try to teach children trough the iconic that is stated in programs. For instance, word ‘save’, and the function of it is to save your file or work. Gradually, children will know and remember that “save” is to keep our work or file in the computer.
            The last thing that I want to inform is the differences between children who learning English and children who do not. I will pick three differences of them. First, children who learn English have more high confidence than children who do not. Children who learn English are able to get many achievements from inside or outside of the school. For they who do not will stuck in their area because they only know one way to speak. Second, children who learn English will be more talk-active than they who do not. That is why the children who do not learn English keep their selves silent when someone speaks different languages especially English. They might be known what someone is talking about but it will be a hard thing for them to answer or to communicate because of the limitation of their knowledge in English. Third and the last thing is children who learn English have a great curiosity in their environment. Usually, children who know more about something will do more to get something others they are going to know. In this case, children who learn English in their early age often have many things to be asked. They force people around them to explain why the things could happen, why it could be like this, why it is important or why it is not. They are more attractive than children who do not learning English.
            To sum up, there are three factors why children should learn English. Three of which are children will get many advantages, there are many easy steps to practice English, and the last but not least is they will be different from other who do not learn English at the early age. That could be the reasons for parents to dig up their children’s ability in four English soft skills. It is an important thing not only for parents but also for children to learn English because the sooner the better. Children still have good memory to memorize many things when they learn something. The memory will stick up in children’s mind although they are growing up. Besides, adults have low opportunities to learn because it will be hard for them to remember vocabularies in English. There are also many good causes and effects why children should learn English, four steps that parents should know, and the differences between children who learn English and they who do not.  They will get many advantages of it. So, from now on let the children be the one who start to lead others to get a bright future.

TV Programs' Effects

[Cause Effect]

          Doing something excessively is not good for us. Even you love it too much. One of the examples is too much watching TV programs. I will take an example of the children. Actually, there are a lot of advantages we can get from TV programs. If we are smart viewers, we ought to classify the good and bad effect of watching television. I am going to highlight the bad and good effects of it. There are five points from the bad and four points from the good. First is the bad effect. One, children who like watching television could become lazy through the time because they spent a lot of their time watching television. The second effect is lack of concentration. Based on research, children who watch television programs up to five hours in a day will get the distraction that he can be able to focus in one thing. The third effect is problem in sight. There are many cases happened in children lives. They start to wear glasses in another reason of heredity. It is bad for them. The fourth effect is they always want to imitate everything that was done by the actress or actor in TV programs. It is ok if they do the good one, if not it becomes a big disaster. They could become so cruel in daily life. The last bad effect is stay up late. They will be easy to sacrifice their time just for watching television. That is from the bad side. Now, I will elaborate the good effect of watching too much TV programs. One, TV programs give us much information. So it depends on how we gather the information from TV programs because there are so many implicit values. The second good effect is a modern life style especially food and clothing. It cannot be denied that lifestyle of children nowadays are too oriented to the advertisement in TV program. It is good for them if they can sort out which one is deserve to be followed. The Third effect is become creative. As we know many advertisements in TV programs are very creative with indirect implicit moral values. The fourth effect is refreshing. After doing daily activities, they will be tired so they need entertainment to refresh their mind. Briefly, watching too much television is not good all the time. It still has several bad effects which can prevent us from getting better reasons of watching TV programs. Therefore, if you love doing something just do it as usual in a common way.

[Order of Similarities]

           People thought that a market and a supermarket are different but actually they are rather similar. I am going to highlight both of them in terms of physical conditioning and their function. First, a market is a public place for folks. Usually, a market was built with a large size to accommodate the crowds. Second, in most cases, a market was built up by the government with the aim to make people have a place to meet and make an interaction in everyday. So, a market is a public facility where people can interact and do everything. Third, a market used by people to do something especially selling and buying. Instead of a market, a supermarket has similar things. First, a supermarket is also a public place for folks. Everyone is able to visit a supermarket although they are going to buy nothing or just do window shopping. Second, we also agree that supermarket is always built in a large size to accommodate the crowds too. Third, a supermarket is also a public facility where people can buy everything but not for selling. Briefly, there are so many similarities between a market and a supermarket in terms of physical conditioning and their function. Therefore, you will feel the same whether you prefer buy daily needs in a market or in a supermarket because both of them was built up to make you easier to do shopping.

[ Order of Differences ]

People thought that a market and a supermarket are similar but actually they are different. I am going to classify the differences between them in terms of physical conditioning and the function. There are several points about their differences. First, when you go shopping in a market, you will find seller selling their goods and products in a mess. I mean, although they have no place to sell they will use any empty space to sell their products but in a supermarket you will be able to find things that you want to buy on its place. Second, shopping in a market needs high patience because if you love everything is keeps in clean I guess you do not shopping in a market because it is dirtier than in a supermarket. We love to go to the supermarket because it is always in a clean condition so we feel comfortable to do shopping. Third, people prefer to buy things in a market because they can do bargaining, especially women. You cannot bargain in a supermarket because the price is already stick up on its value board, but if you are lucky you still have a chance to get a discount or promo. Fourth, often when we go shopping in a market, we could not find the things that we want to buy because maybe you go to the market in the afternoon or evening or even you can become an unfortunate person if you buy something but it is not in a fresh condition. It will not be happen in a supermarket because the things that sold in a supermarket are always sterile and you will find everything that you want to buy. To sum up, we can classify the differences of market and supermarket through the physical condition of their selves or even the function of them. Thus, make a decision about a place you are going to buy your daily needs whether in a market to save your money or in a supermarket to get a convenience when you do shopping.

              Do you know about the fresh event in The Faculty of Letters State University of Malang ? There will be “Sastraswati”. There are three important points from that event. Three of which are interesting, enjoyable and gorgeous. The most interesting thing from that event is the concept. This big event will reveal the floral accent for the dominant theme. So if we are able to come to this event, we are supposed to wear floral or flowery clothes for the dress code. The most enjoyable thing which is still inextricably linked with the first statement is the performances. This event will involve many kinds of performances. For instance, there are a lot of bands, acoustic, poetry, dances, theathre and any other kind of performances. The most gorgeous thing is the time when this event will be held. This event will be held on Thursday, 28 February 2013 in Local D7. If we want to come and join, we are supposed to register first to make the committee easier for counting the guests. However we do not need to pay for a ticket because it is free. Another most important thing is the purpose for holding this event.  This event is going to make us satisfied and I believe it will be more rousing if we come together with our friends, classmates even with our couple. It must be very good event for us to know each other by introducing our self to the other participants. We also can learn the aesthetics of arts through the performance. If we are the real student of Letter’s Faculty we are suppose to require our high intention. We ought to reveal our welfare and glory even to the other faculty by holding this big event with big members and participants too. In brief, this event will be well celebrated by showing interested guest stars and our boisterous. Therefore, we must take our big concern to make this even shown well.

My Private Room

My bedroom is the most comfortable place in my home. It is a little bit different from any other bedrooms. When you entered the room, the first thing you notice are mirrors and the color of the wall. There are a lots of mirrors in my room. It designed by my mother and I really do not know why she puts three mirrors in my bedroom. There are two colors which cover the wall. It is purple and yellow. On the left side of the door there is a big single bed and the color is snowy white with two pillows and a bolster. A mirror is put on the wall above the bed. There is a big window in front of my bed and it is permanent window. It cannot be opened because it is protected by iron bars so the thief cannot enter my room easily. The color of curtain that covers my window is smooth yellow with floral. Beside the window is a bookcase. I put my stuffs and novels there. It is like a small cupboard so I also can save my shoes or bag inside it and of course it made my mother re-arrange everything inside my cupboard. The second mirror is put on that bookcase together with my stuffs and stationery. It is small and cute. The last thing inside my bedroom that I have not mentioned before is a dressing table. It is big dressing table with a big mirror too. There is also a small table so I can put laptop or my gadgets there. At least, I really love my room so much because of everything inside it make me comfortable to spend a lots of my time there. Therefore, I have to make my private room neat and tidy everyday so my mother do not need to clean and re-arrange my stuffs without my permission.

My Cozy House

          Everyone has a house somehow. A house can be cozy or not it is depends in how the owner treated their house. My house is cozy enough to stay. It is a rectangle house with no space left in the front or at the back side of the house. It is very cozy because I designed it together with my mother so I can place the rooms wherever I like and wherever I want. On the front side of my house there is a small fountain. The terrace is in the middle front of my house. On the left side of it, there is an outdoor carport. I have to enter the carport first before I enter the house. As the usual houses, the first place we find is living room. It is a small living room because usually we rarely have many guests. Next place is family room and it connected with the door in the right side of my house. On the left side of family room is my bedroom, the coziest place in my house. At the front of my room is my brother’s room. Between our rooms there is a first bathroom for me and my brother. There is a corridor inside my house. It is connecting the family room and kitchen. It is located between my brother’s and my parent’s room. Behind of my brother’s room is a kitchen and my kitchen has a small water fountain which is located in front of the dining room. On the front side of my dining room is my aunt’s room because my aunt stays in my house together with my family. Beside the kitchen there is a second bathroom which is larger than before because it has washing machine in it. So, I usually do laundry in that bathroom. There is small door in front of the bathroom which can become a back door and it can be a place for dry the wet’s clothes. In brief, my house is the most comfortable place to stay because my mother designed it herself together with me. Therefore, I feel interested to stay there instead of live in my boarding house now. I really miss my home.

 Have you ever known who is the politician heroin of the world ? She is Margaret Thatcher. She was politician and former British Prime Minister. She was born as Margaret Roberts on October, 13 1925 in Grantham, England. Her family operated a grocery store and she lived in an apartment above the store with her family. Little Thatcher was a student of local grammar school. During her childhood, Thatcher was introduced to conservative politics by her father, who was a member of the town’s council, grocer, lay preacher and local mayor. Thatcher was good and clever student so, she accepted to Oxford University. She also studied chemistry at Somerville College. When she studied chemistry at Oxford, she became president of the Oxford Conservative Association because she was politically active. She had a good instructor named Dorothy Hodgkin, a Nobel Prize – winning scientist. In 1947, she finally graduated and earned degree in chemistry. Only two years after graduated, Thatcher made her first bid for public office. She ran as the conservative candidate for a Dartford parliamentary seat in the 1950 elections. In 1951, she married Denis Thatcher, having two twin children by him. A year later, Thatcher put politics aside for a time to study law when not in work and became barrister in 1953 but she did not stay away from the political arena for too long. In 1959, Thatcher firstly won a seat in the House of Commons for representing Finchley. Thatcher was also appointed parliamentary under secretary for pensions and national insurance. She became a member of the Shadow Cabinet which a group of political leaders who hold cabinet level posts if their party was in power. In June 1970, Thatcher was appointed secretary of state for education and science. She found her frustrated not because of the bad press around her actions but because she had difficulties getting Prime Minister Edward Heath to listen to her ideas. She handled a number of conflicts and crisis since 1971. In 1979, she also helped to return conservative power. There are a lot of conflicts started from 1981, the Falklands war in 1982, demonstration of labor in 1984 until 1985, big bomb in Grand Hotel, Brighton in the year of 1984 which almost made her and her husband’s life in dangerous. In her old age, she got dementia and dangerous illusion. All of tragedy in her life time was filmed by a well known movie director. To sum up, she is the only one female who became the longest time being a prime minister in Britain. Therefore, she was a strong lady so she named by people as the “Iron Lady” because of her strong willing, cleverness, spirit and also her dreamed to made political in her country became developed and good.

            Language is an amazing skill for children to master and its development that many parents really look forward to. Language development helps child’s ability to communicate, express, and understand feelings. It also supports thinking of problem solving, developing, and maintaining relationships.
            Here are a few of important things your child might achieve in language development between three months and six years (childhood life) :
            In 3-12 months, babies most likely play with sounds and begin to communicate with gestures. They can give respond when you talk by making noises or becoming quiet, make an eye contact, and laugh. They will respond when you say their name. At around 12 months, they say a few clear words such as “mama” or “dada” to refer their mom and dad.
            In 12-18 months, the first words usually come appear and by 18 months babies use around 50 words. Babies can understand more than they can say. They might be able to follow simple instructions and understand you when you say “no”.
            In 18 months to 2 years, babies’ vocabulary will probably grow approximately from 50 to 300 words. At first they will understand mostly nouns than eventually a few verbs and adjectives. They will start to put two words together into short sentences. They might say ‘tar’ instead of ‘car’ or might leave the end of words altogether.
            In 2 until 3 years around, they will be able to speak longer. They can say more complex sentences and use more speech sounds properly when they speak. They might play and talk at the same time. We will probably be able to understand most of what they said by the time they becoming three.
            In 3 up to 5 years, they are a preschooler. We can expect longer, more abstract and complete conversations. Their vocabularies will continue to grow. They might show that they understand the basic rules of grammars as they experiments with more complex sentences and we can look forward to entertaining some stories too.
            In 5 until 6 years, they will learn more words and start to understand how the sound in language works together. They will get it during the early school years. They will gradually become a better story teller as they learn to put words together in a variety of ways and build different types of sentences.
            To sum up, language is very important for child to learn and very critical dramatic lessons for parents to face. They ought to mastering first before they teach their child with the right way and rules of speak. Instead children use their own language during their early years is not a big problems because children can be well spoken gradually by the time.

           Yesterday was an annoying day. It began when I woke up at four o’clock in the early morning. There were so many people in my boarding house and I did not know them even where they came from. One of my friends told me when I asked who they are. They were her friends and wanted to take a bath in my boarding house because the water in their boarding house was perfectly off. My boarding house became very noisy and it was very distinguish from the other day so I just when to the campus without taking a bath. The first class that I had was a reading class. I did not know if it was a reading class because the lecturer played music from her tape recorder and we just become a good listener until the class ended. I might be very sleepy at that time because the second class that I had was a PKn subject. Some of my friends did a presentation and made us watched their video. I might have been daydreaming. The third class was my last class yesterday. It was a grammar class and the lecturer suddenly gave us the result of our first quiz in the middle of the lesson. I guessed my score perfectly right. That was true, I only got six and I did not get my concentration until the lesson was finished. After the class ended, I went to the ESAC to do my assignment. I brought my laptop there and tried to connect it with the wi-fi. I really forgot that the wi-fi’s setting in my laptop was cut off by my senior high school’s friend. So I just read books and talked with my friends over there until ESAC was closed at three o’clock in the afternoon. At a half past three, I went to local D to attend big meeting of Legato but the meeting was canceled. It seems like I had waited for nothing. It was useless thing. Then I went home and took a bath and when I wanted to eat, my friend forgot to cook rice for me. She said sorry to me and I forgave her. The last thing that made my day was annoying was I can’t sleep until three o’clock in the early morning because I felt starving all night long. In brief, I had so many annoying events during yesterday from early morning until the end of the day. Therefore, I try to fill up my day with useful things and activities so I did not get any bored or annoying day again.
