[Order of Time/Time Signal]
The
other exciting moment is hearing your child’s first word. To understand your
child’s talk or language, it develops in three periods, three of which are age
0-6 months, 6-12 months, and 12-18 months. At age 0-6 months, your child will
cry to express many kinds of feelings or to say something. For example, he will
cry if he is hungry, wet, sick, cold, and so on. In other cases, a child not
only cries to express something, but also makes noises or babbles. They also
start to recognize and look for familiar voices and sounds. You can nurture
your child’s language skills, when a child babbles and gurgles, you should respond
to it with the same sounds. Always talk when you dress, feed, bath, or play
with them. Sing simple songs and play soft music to make them more comfortable
and more attracted. A child at the age 6-12 months has many typical language
skills. A child starts to babble to call something or somebody, such as “Ma-ma”
or “Pa-pa”. He responds to his name and understands name of some familiar
objects. You can teach your child their name and names of familiar objects,
like chair, book, or table. At this age, children show interest to pictures so
you can show them, a story book which has exciting or educational pictures, or
children’s magazines. They also pay attention to conversations. If you are aware,
they will look and listen to what other people say. So, talk to them about what
you are doing, like “I am cooking right now, cooking soup. Do you want some?”
Therefore, do not leave your child alone in silence. Maybe you need other
suggestions to nurture your child, you can also sing a song together or play
peek-a-boo. At age 12-18 months, a child starts to know one by one their family
members. You can introduce the family members’ names or other people, also
familiar objects like chairs or table, and body parts, such as hair, forehead,
nose, and so on. At this age, they start to talk and imitate something, you can
teach familiar sounds, like a cat’s “Me-ow”, or a dog’s “Bark”. They start to
be more curious and they pay more attentions to what people are talking. Teach
them what to say when they meet people or greetings, such “Hi” or “Bye-Bye”.
When they look at pictures, they identify what is the content of the picture
itself. So you can make them a scrapbook with bright pictures of familiar
objects around, such as people, flowers, and bird. In a nut shell, we can
follow, know, and treat children better, because as a parent, you are your
child’s first teacher. Therefore, you can teach and raise your child to nurture
your child’s dream.
