   In this globalization era, there have been so many kinds of transportation which are really useful in human’s life, for example cars. I saw two cars that have been parked in front of Q3 building this evening, there were Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga. Both cars look different at first glance. The differences between those two cars were in brand, color, price and of course number plate. When I saw the Avanza I directly felt an interest in it. It had silver color that made it looks beautiful. As one of the best cars, it also has a high price. The price was for about Rp. 170.000.000. The last thing I saw from the car was the number plate which was mounted on lower part of the car. The number plate was N 1846 CJ. Beside the Avanza, was also parked an Ertiga which has red color. It was looked brighter than the Avanza. It’s price was around Rp. 175.000.000. I also saw it’s number plate from the place where I stood up. The number place was N 386 GC. They also have the same thing in exterior, interior and their function. Let me saw Toyota Avanza from the exterior. The color was resembled to a spoon, It was silver colored minivan. It measures about 4 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width, and 1.6 meters in height. Like most minivan, it has a hood, 3 rear windows, 2 doors on each side, and a door on it backside.  Now let me gave a look on it interior. Just like most minivan it has 2 seats on in front, 3 in the middle, and also 3 seats at the back side that can be folded. For entertainment media, it has a built in audio system. Toyota Avanza also has an air conditioner like most of modern cars. Now let me talked about overall function of this car. It is a minivan car, so that it used for traveling with people. The car is suitable for traveling with family or friends, and it is comfortable enough to fit up to 8 people inside it. It was a good car for traveling, but it can not go well in off road. This car was still able to travel on dirt road, but not a road with a rough surface.  Now let me continue to the second car. The second car is Suzuki Ertiga. From the outside or the exterior, we could see it has red color. For the measurement 4 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width and also in height. Same as Toyota Avanza, it has a hood, 3 rear windows, 2 doors on each side, and a door on the backside. For the interior, it has 2 seats in first row, 3 seats in the second row, and 3 seats in the last row the last row seats can be folded. As a minivan as common, the overall function is suitable for traveling with family or friends. Approximately 8 people can get into this car. Same like Toyota Avanza, this Suzuki Ertiga will not be able to travel in rough road. In brief, Toyota Avanza and Suzuki Ertiga have differences and similarities in a few ways.

            In this globalizationera, there has been so many kinds of transportations, which are useful in human’s life. A car is one of them.  This is an example of car transportation that I saw in front of my class some days ago. When I looked out the windows, I found two cars were parked near my class.  They are Avanza and Ertiga. At a glance, they looked similar. However, they are different inseveral things. First of all, I will tell you about the similarity of those cars. I have divided it into three identical parts: interior, exterior, and function. Avanza and Ertiga are equal in their interior. They have two seats in front, which are on the right side on the driver’s seat and the left on the passenger, three seats in the middle, and threebackseats that can be folded. The position of the rear view mirror, steering wheel, gearshift, and the handbrake are also similar. They are in the front, surely near the driver’s seat. For the entertainment media, they have a built-in audio system and an air conditioner like most modern car in common. Next, the exterior of Avanza has similarity with Ertiga. Both cars are minivan. Avanza’s trunk is at the back and so is Ertiga. The hood of those cars is in front, where the engines are.  The codes of their license plates, which show car area, are the same. That is N for Malang city. Last, the function of Avanza is just the same as Ertiga. They are types of family car so they are suitable for travelling. Conversely, they cannot be driven for travelling over rough ground. To sum up, Avanza and Ertiga are alike in several ways. In other hand, those cars had some differences, which can be classified in four aspects; those are brand name, colour, price, and plate number.   The first dissimilarity which is very clear, is the brand name.  The car on the right side is Toyota Avanza.  We can find the brand name on the backside of the car’s body.  It is on the left side and below the back screen.  While the other car on the left side is Suzuki Ertiga.  The easiest way to know the brand name is by looking for it on the backside of the car’s body.  You will see the word “Ertiga” as the brand name of the car.  The next distinction between those two cars is the colour.  We can see it clearly.  Toyota Avanza is the one with a black colour.  In a contrast, Suzuki Ertiga has a silver colour.  From the price, we can also find the difference.  Toyota Avanza is worth about Rp 170.000.000.  Whereas Suzuki Ertiga has a price which is a little bit more expensive, it is about Rp 175.000.000. The other dissimilarity from those two cars is the number plate.  The number plate of Toyota Avanza is N 1846 CJ.  On the other hand, Suzuki Ertiga’s number plate is N 386 GC.  In brief, although those cars have equality in some aspects, they will have different features due to their different brand name and price so that customers are supposed to choose their own transportation selectively.

            Sooner or later, we will get married. In my mind, an ideal husband should meet several criteria, three of which are smart, patient, and hardworking. My future husband should be smart. He is able to communicate his thoughts. He can tell me what is better and what is wrong. For example, he can solve our problem easily without any fight. He can manage his time for family and work and he is able to ease my work. For example, he helps me to do housework when I cannot do it for some reason such as I am sick. Not only that, my husband should be high educated and he could be a good example for our children. For example, he can teach our children when they ask a question about something. The second criterion is he should be patient. He should not easily be angry when there is a problem in our family. He speaks softly with me, our children, and my family. He treats me and our children as well.  For example, if our children did something wrong he should not easily be angry, but he told them softly because if he strict with them, they will be brave with their parents. All will go better if my husband can be patient. The third, my husband should be hard worker. He always appreciates the time to do something that is more important. He must have a good job. For example, he never let me and my family neglected. He can supply the need of our family. In brief, I want my husband know the condition of me and my family, he also know how to do our family with love. Therefore, I must have several criteria that I mentioned before so I could get my dreamed husband.

My Lovely Room

            My room is a small room that is very comfortable. It is a small rectangle room. It is a good place to take a rest when I feel tired after school and a best room to study. My bedroom is also a great place for doing all of things that I want and spend my spare time. When you open the door, you will see girly things in my room. The color of wall of my room is pink and there are some flower paintings on my wall which are made by me. When you enter in my room and look at the right side, you will see a bed at the corner. It is a small bed which is covered by red floral bed linen. There are two red pillows, a red blanket, and some dolls in my bed. At the right side near my bed, there is my desk which is full of things. On the right of my desk, there are frame pictures of my family and my friends so if I am studying in my desk it makes me full of spirit when I see their little sweet smile. On the left of my desk, there is a vase of flowers and a basket of stationery. I always put all of my books in my desk and also my make up tools because over of my desk there is a big mirror hung on the wall. Next to my desk, there is a wardrobe which I use to put all of my clothes. In front of my desk, there is a television. I always watch television in my spare time or when I feel bored to do something. And the last thing is there is a red carpet on the floor. In brief, there are a lot of things in my bedroom that help me to take a rest after my tiring day, it helps me to find a joy time by doing something in my spare time, and it helps me to save my important things. Therefore, I love my bedroom with a lot of things there.

My House

            Everybody knows that house is a good place in his or her life because it is place to shelter. My house is my comfortable place for me. It is a good place for me and my family because there we usually do our daily activity. When you look at my house, you will see a square house and it have two sides because there is a barrier in the middle of my house. In the first right side of my house, you will see my store which sells a lot of equipment. Behind my store, there is my room where I use to sleep and do all of things that I want to do. Behind my room, there is my sister room but now my sister does not sleep in her room because she lives with her husband in their own house. In front of my room, there is my parents’ room between a living room and a family’s room. There are tables, chairs, and cupboard in the living room. At the second right side of my house, you will see a mosque between a garage and a dining room.  Near the dining room, there is a kitchen for cooking some meals. Next to kitchen, there are two bath rooms. In brief, my house is a comfortable place with many rooms that helps my daily life. Therefore, keep our house clean so that we feel comfortable to live in our house.

The Merit of English for Young Learners

            English is an international language. People know that English is important for them to connect with others in the world. English is better when people have learned English since they were a child. Studying English for young learners have many advantages, three of which are they will have a pride for knowing English as an international language, they will get a job easily in the future, and they will have more view of the world. The first advantage is they will have a pride for knowing English as an international language. When someone knows English deeply, the people will say that he or she is smart because not everybody can be like that. In this situation, it is easier when people have learned English since they were a child because when they become an adult, they will know English deeply. The second advantage is they will get a job easily in the future. Nowadays, usually one of the requirements of a job is they can speak English so that they will get a job easier. The third advantage is they will have more view of the world. When you learn English deeply, you can go abroad easily and make a new experience in other country. You will know the culture of another country and that is fun when you can tell your story of going abroad to your friends. Briefly, learn English for young learners is very needed for development of their life. Therefore, if we have a young sister, brother or when we become a parent, we should taught them English since they are a child.

Bad Time Yesterday

            Yesterday, I had a bad time. In the morning I was late to wake up because I forgot to set alarm in my mobile phone so I woke up at 6 a. m. I was confused because I had to arrive in a reading class at 7 a. m so I directly took a bath fast. At 6.30 a. m I finished take a bath, then I prepared all things that I had to bring because I had not prepared yet at night before. After that, I wanted to have breakfast but I realized that I did not have any food so I decided to make a noodle and ate it fast. At 7 a. m, I went to the college but when I arrived there, my lecturer had been there for several minutes. I was safe because my lecturer was not angry with me but I had a little problem again because I forgot to do my homework. I was safe again because my lecturer did not check my homework. At 12 a. m, I finished all of my classes yesterday. I felt free and wanted to go to my boarding house to take a rest but my friends came to me to ask doing our homework. I said that I was very tired and asked them to delay to do our homework but they could not because they had an appointment another day. In the middle of discussion, I felt so hungry but we had to finish our homework. At 3 p. m, we finished our homework. I was happy because finally I could go to my boarding house to take a rest. When I wanted to go, my friend called me and told that we had a make up for a listening class at 3 p. m. I felt upset because I could not take a rest again but I felt happy because my friend called me again and said that there was no make up for the listening class. Finally, at 3 p. m, I went to my boarding house to take a rest. In a nut shell, I had a busy day yesterday that made me so dizzy. Therefore, I must prepare all of things so that I feel ready to do some activities.

The Importance of English in an Elementary School Education

English has an important role in the world as an international language. English is like a window to the world because by English you can learn about the world and you can get more information from the world. If you want to be a knowledgeable person, English is important to be learned. Having ability in English also will help the students to study because what he or she learned is not limited to the one in their country but also in the world. When we know the importance of English for life, we also know when the better time to learn English. English has several advantages when it has been taught since in an elementary school, three of which are elementary school age is a brilliant time to learn a second language, preparation English in the junior high school, and preparation to face the globalization era.

The first advantage is an elementary school age is a brilliant time to learn a second language. 6-13 years of age is the right age to learn a second language beside the mother language because at that age children have a good brain condition to receive something new. According to brain imaging technological research conducted in California, Los Angeles, children aged 6-13 years old who are commonly known as in critical periods, states that areas of the brain that organize a language skill has the most rapid growth. Giving them a second language needs some stages along with their ability. In grade 1 of an elementary school, we can tell them vocabulary that is near with their activity or environment with the pictures. For example, the teacher gives them a pictorial dictionary. In grade 2, we tell them a simple song in English and ask them to sing together. For example, the teacher asks children to sing a song twinkle-twinkle little star. In grade 3, we give them a simple game to guess something in English. For example, the teacher points a table then the teacher asks the students to guess what the name of that thing is. In grade 4, we tell them to write and read words in English correctly with the simple way. For example, the teacher shows the right spelling of word and tells how to pronounciate it. In grade 5, we teach them to make a simple sentence about what they doing are. For example, the teacher asks the students to make a simple sentence such as ‘I bring a book’. In grade 6, we teach them to speak English a little bit such as telling their family, hobby, and etcetera. For example, the teacher asks the students to tell about their hobby such as ‘My hobby is singing’.

The second advantage is preparation to face English in a junior high school. When the students have graduated from an elementary school, then they enroll to a junior high school, English is not strange anymore to them because they ever got an English lesson in the elementary school. In a junior high school, an English lesson is a compulsory subject and English is a foreign language so the student should learn it since in an elementary school to avoid difficulties. The most important thing of learning English is time. Students need a long time to understand the second language deeply so if they learn English in junior high school for the first time, it will be difficult for them. For example, a student needs a long time to comprehend the grammatical structures because he or she still does not have a basic ability related to those structures. The second prominent thing is patience. Students need to practice English everyday so they can master it well. For instance, a student will have a difficulty to speak English fluently if he or she does not practice every day. The last precious thing is that students must have a strong will to learn English. It is because the students who have a strong will they will not give up easily. For example, while the students are learning English, they are going to make a lot of mistakes so that they need a strong will to learn it.

The third advantage is preparation to face the globalization era. In this globalization era everyone is supposed to be competent and improve his or her quality in order to face the challenges of life. Learning English since elementary school has many good effects for the globalization era, one effect is they will be easy get a job because one of the requirements of every good job is have a skill in English. For example, someone who wants to apply in a big company he or she should have a good ability in English. Another effect is they will not become outdated because as the time goes by, science and technology will evolve and of course need English to learn. For example, if someone wants to get more information from internet, they need a skill in English most of the information in the internet is written in English.  Another effect is they will be readier to compete with others in the world as English is an international language. As we all know that the competition to get the better life in this world is not easy so that we need a special ability such as an English skill. For example, if someone wants to work in developed countries with higher salary he or she needs to have an English skill.

In brief, English as an international language is important for human’s life because it becomes a bridge between countries in the world to interact so that in this modern era we are supposed to learn English in order to face the challenges of life. Therefore, English is important in an elementary school education because the better time to learn a second language is at the age of elementary school. We can get the advantages of learning English since in an elementary school to get the better and easier life because English has become a crucial tool for continuing education, employment and social status

The Deaf Musician

Beethoven was a great musician. He was gradually going deaf when he was 28 years old. He lived like an exile because of his deafness. He wrote a music which was reminded us of his trouble and courageous life. He wrote music more gloriously that gives us an inspiration.

Bad Effects of Watching TV for Children

Watching TV for children is an enjoyable activity for them. Children who watch TV programs too much have several bad effects, three of which are effect to their cognitive, effect to their health, and effect to their habit. First effect is to their cognitive. Children who watch TV programs can be lack of concentration. When he or she watches a TV program, they just need some minutes to concentrate because the program will be divided by the advertisements. Then, they will have a simple mindset because when they watch a TV program, they do not need to think much and they are less able to think critically. They are also difficult to imagine something because when they watch a TV program, they just need to look and listen. The second effect is to their health. The child who likes to watch TV programs can be in front of it many hours. If the children watch TV programs too much, they will have a problem with their eyes. May be her or his eyes will be tired fast and then she or he will has a nearsighted and more eyes problems. Another problem to their health is they probably will have a bad development on their body such as overweight because they choose to watch a TV program and they rarely exercise. The third effect is their habit. When the children watch TV programs too much, they will have a bad habit. They become lazy to do something else such as study because they do not want to miss the TV programs. It will influence their intelligence. When he or she stays along in front of a TV and does not do something else such as plays with his or her friends or family, probably he or she will become an individual person. Another bad effect to their habit is they will be influenced a violence in some TV programs because they have not been able to think long and think what is better or bad. In brief, watching TV programs too much will give the children bad effects. Therefore, we as an old brother or sister should reduce the habit of watching TV too much to our young brother or sister.

Mio and beat

Everyone knows that transportations are useful in human’s life. Most of people use motorcycle to go everywhere. So do my friend and I use a motorcycle. I will tell you about my motorcycle and my friend’s. My motorcycle is Mio and my friend’s motorcycle is Beat. Our motorcycles have differences and similarities. First, I will tell you about the differences of Mio and Beat. The differences are the manufacture, the features, and the volume cylinder. The manufacture between Mio and Beat are different. The manufacture of Mio is Yamaha. You can find the letters of the manufacture in front side of the motorcycle. The manufacture of Beat is Honda. You can find it at the same place with Mio in the front side of motorcycle. Some features of Mio and Beat are different. Beat has a secure key shutter in the left handbrake. It helps you to lock the handbrake when you stop in the downhill or uphill. Beat has a parking brake lock so the motorcycle is more safety from the thieves. Beat has a side stand switch so if you want to start the motorcycle but the stand is on, the motorcycle will not be started. On the other hand, Mio does not have whether a secure shutter, a parking brake lock, or a side stand switch. The least disparity is the volume cylinder of them. Mio has 113.7cc but Beat has 108cc. Although Mio and Beat different, it also has similarities. They are the type of motorcycle, the type frame, and the front and rear brakes. The type of Mio is automatic so we do not need to transmit the gear while riding the motorcycle. The type frame of Mio is a steel tube. The last is the front brake of Mio uses a disc brake and the rear brake of Mio uses a drum brake. On the other hand, the type of Beat is also automatic so it makes you easy to ride. Then, the type frame of Beat is also a steel tube as same as the Mio. The least, the front and rear brake of Beat also uses disc and drum brakes. In brief, Yamaha Mio and Honda Beat have differences and similarities. Therefore, the similarities and the differences may help you to decide when you want to buy automatic motorcycles.

GBA on English Skill Listening Learning

Education policy for English language teaching in Indonesia has been changed to improve the outcomes of English language teaching itself. One of the curriculum which has been implemented is Genre Based Approach. It is defined a genre as systemic functional linguistics that is concerned with the relationship between language and its function in social settings.There are four steps in GBA to be implemented in the teaching listening. The first step is Building Knowledge of Field (BkoF). This step aims to equalize general knowledge, background, or perception the students have. The teacher has to deliver the introduction about the material that she or he is going to teach to his or her students. The teacher and students build cultural context, share experiences, discuss vocabulary, and so on. For instance they are going to learn about ‘Job Interview’, so the teacher has to explain them what it is about in general about a job interview. The second step is called Modelling of Text (MoT). The teacher could use a conversation, dialogue, talk show program, etc. as the material in listening teaching. This material will be useful for students to learn deeper about an interview. It may include much information about kinds of interview, what the things must be prepared before facing an interview, or the questions might be asked in the interview. So, the more information given by the teacher, the better students’ comprehension might have. In addition, the teacher could give other examples of interview. For instance an interview about selection for exchange student program. In short, at the second stage, students listen and respond to various interviews with similar communicative purposes. The third step is called as Join Construction of Text (JcoT). This step will be useful to gain a brainstorm of students’ opinion. From this step, students are supposed to have an open minded through discussing in the listening section. After students have knowledge about the material, the teacher is supposed to give an instruction to the students of the class to divide into some groups. The groups will discuss about some favourite jobs they want and the responsibilities of each job then they should present what they get. So every student also involved in the speaking and listening process. The fourth step is Independent Construction of text (ICoT). In this final stage, students are ready to work independently to improve their ability in listening. The teacher can let students work on their own. In other words, teachers should minimize their support, scaffolding and interference with students learning process. It will provide students with the opportunity to show their ability to strengthen their skill in listening to some interview questions which might be faced in the future. How far students’ ability and knowledge can be sharpened by doing such an examination or answering questions given by the teacher. The question will measure their comprehension in this material process. It also gains students’ confidence and independence. Briefly, the teacher is able to command her or his students to have a high English skill in listening by using the right step to improve and increase students’ comprehension. Therefore, Genre Based Approach is recommended to be applied to improve English skill listening at learning process.

Do you know a new event in Faculty of Letters University of Malang?  The event will be Sastraswati. Sastraswati is an event to make the student of Faculty of Letters’ relation closer. The most interesting thing of this event is this event will offer performances of bands, acoustic, theatre, poem, dance, art, and so on. You can join to perform if you have a talent so you can entertain the audience. Not only performance owned by Faculty of Letters, but also there is a guest star Veskaria. Veskaria is one of the most famous bands in Malang, so you will be entertained by this band. The second enjoyable thing is this event is free. You do not need to pay anything to come or join perform. This event will be held on February 28, 2013 at D7 and D8 gardens. There are large gardens so you will feel comfortable to enjoy it. It will start at 6.30 p. m until end so you have many times to enjoy it and the weather fresh because it shows in afternoon. The last prominent thing is there are many stands which sell varieties of foods and drinks. You do not worry if in the middle of event you feel hungry or thirsty. Sometimes, there is someone who sells flowers. You can buy the flower for your girlfriend or boyfriend. In brief, the event will be so wonderful because there are many things that will entertain us. Therefore, you must come or join this event if you are “sastra mbois.”

            Language is one of the most important things in life. Everyone has learned the language since they were babies. Children language development occurs in several stages. The role of parents is also important for the development of children's language. From birth until around 6 months, babies make a great deal of noise. In this ages they usually squeal, squeak, and growl. They can also laughing and make sounds such as ohh, eehhh, ahhh. They are able to respond to human voices by turning his head and eyes. They know appropriately to friendly and angry tones. In this age, parents must always communicate with their babies and do not make angry voice because it can make babies afraid and cry. From 6 until 12 months, they produce more complicated sounds called babbling. They can make some consonant voices and usually some children in this age understand between 5 and 10 words. They can say dada, daddy, mama, and more easy words. In this age parents, must teach them more words until they can say it From 12 until 18 months, most of children understand words between 50 to 100. They not only can understand many words but also the can produce words between 25 to50. They also can understand simple instructions. For example when their parents make a joke, the children will laugh. In this age parents must make their child respond to understand more things, say a word and then pointing a picture that the words mean. From 18 until 24 months, most of children can say two words of sentences. For example, “I eat, I sleep, I smile” They are able to use at least two prepositions such as, in; on. They can use two pronouns correctly: me, you.  In this age parents can teach their child by give them some easy question to point their nose, eyes, lips, and etc. From 24 until 36 months, they can say three words of sentences easily. For example, “I eat noodle.” They also understand most of simple questions about their activity. For example, “what are you doing?” In this age, parents must give them many question about their activities, such as ask what she or he is doing, what is her or his name, her or his parents’ name, and etc. From 36 until 48 months, most of children understand between 600-1000 words and can make about 3 to 4 words of sentences. For example, “I sleep on the bed.” They also can answer what, where, and when questions easily and know name of familiar animals in their environment. They can make sentences using past tense and more grammar. From 48 until 60 months, most of children’s vocabulary increases to 1000-1600 words and can make between 4 to 6 words of sentences. They can count from 1 to 10 and know his or her age. They know common opposites, big-little, hard-soft. For example, they know if tiger is bigger than cat. From 60 until 72 months, most of children’s vocabulary increases between 1500 to 2100 words and can make between 5 to 6 words of sentences. They can make complete sentences and they know a little bit alphabet. In this age they have many questions. They want to know many things, and for this case parents must answer all of her or his question so that they can learn more and understand more. In brief, increasing of their age, their language development will increase too such as the increase of their vocabulary, their grammar, and etc. Therefore, parents must be creative to help their child increase her or his understanding of language.
