Avansa and Ertiga

Avansa and Ertiga are kinds of brand cars. I saw those two cars in front of my class last week. At a glance, they looked different. However, they are similar to several things. I divided into three identical  parts: interior, exterior, and function. First of all, Avansa and Ertiga are equal  in their interior. They have two seats in the front which are on the right side for the driver’s seat and the left for the passenger, three seats in the middle, and also three seats at the backside that can be folded. The position of the rear view mirror, steering wheel, gear shift, and  handbrake are also similiar. They are in the front, surely near the driver’s seat. For the entertainment media, they have built-in audio system and air conditioner like most modern cars in common. Next, the exterior of Avansa has similarity with Ertiga. Both cars are minivan. Avansa’s trunk is at the back and so is Ertiga. The hood of those cars is in the front where the engines are in.  The codes of their license plates , which show car area, are same. That is N for Malang city. Last, the function of Avansa is just the same as Ertiga. They are types of family cars. For that reason, they are suitable for travelling. Conversely, they cannot be driven for travelling over rough ground. To sum up, Avansa and Ertiga are alike in several ways. I suggest you before deciding to travel by car, just assure that you drive the right car because of its capability to pass over the field.

Learning English
Learning English is valuable. What is the merit of learning English for the young learner? My niece who is 3 years old is an example. The mother teaches her since she was 1 years old. First, when her age 1 year old, her mother always listened to the English song. For example are twinkle-twinkle, bingo, and alphabet’s song. The song that she was listened to reminded in her brain. So, she can sing the song clearly. The example, when her mother played the song about twinkle-twinkle, she imitates to sing a song although she cannot speak clearly because she is still 1 years old but this is the first step to learn. It means, the young learner learn English need reminded and imitated as the first step. Besides, imitated and reminded have a benefit for the young learner. An example, when she as a student, she will has a good memory to remind. And she gets a good mark because she was got a stimulus when she was a child, especially in every subject matter. Second, she will know about the culture, how to produce the best vocal, and also the English song will be easy for her to listen or conversation in English. Moreover, she can understand earlier than others in the same age with her. For example, when she is in the kindergarten, she will know what the teacher said because she has been learning about it. In brief, giving a stimulus to the young learner is more valuable. She will respond what was she learn.

Bilingual Teaching
Bilingual teaching, as reflected in the term, is a kind of learning in which two languages are used in combination and used the mother tongue and other languages. Many countries were applying the method to their children and this has happened in several decades such as England and Canada. The general purpose of bilingual teaching is primarily to provide supplies to the students’ language skills that include listening skills, speaking, reading and writing in a language other than their mother tongue. The capability using two languages not only in speaking and writing, but also the ability to understand what other people are communicated verbally and writing. Children are able to speak, read, and write in two languages with the same capabilities. The implementation of bilingual learning can make children have an understanding of oral communication and able to speak in two languages.
However, there are three kinds of bilingual teaching programs, those are transition, maintenance, and enrichment. Each program has a different arrangement. First, the bilingual transition programs carry out in which the students learn the content area especially through the mother language. For example, the student learn about English using the mother tongue (traditional or Indonesian language), by the time they learn the vocabulary, sentence, and text in English. So, the students have mastered English if they apply their position as communication media and the whole content areas using English. The bilingual maintenance program is different from the bilingual transition program. The student learns the content areas using the mother language as long as their schooling. Improving their capability, the student has to learn their academic subject in English. The aim of the program is the student learns English as skill to master the academic subject. For example, in math subject matter, their teacher use native language first then begins teaching the same curriculum in English, using the native language to fall back on. Last, bilingual enrichment gives preference to the student to be able learns two languages in every academic subject. So, the academic subject can be explained through their ability and compare between the mother language and English.
In addition, bilingual teaching has many principles. The most important is to develop the use of bilingual communication skills so they can communicate in two languages learned or the language used by people in their environment. The bilingual program helps someone know other cultures. However, each language goes with the system behavior and different cultures. By knowing the language, they know the culture of the language, as well as cultivate an attitude of tolerance towards other people who have different cultures. The least, being a bilingual person can develop one's ability to think creatively and have two or more words for each object and an idea also make a person more careful in communicating with people of different languages. Moreover, the bilingual program can grow and boost confidence in a person. Besides, a person with bilingual bolder to communicate and still feel safe in an environment that uses the bilingual program who understand him and will allow a person to learn a third language, when the person is already bilingual.
However, the aims of bilingual teaching are to improve subject matter mastery, to improve the English language skills in scientific and non-scientific forums, to manage accessing scientific knowledge of various international media, and to get to communicate between students from within and outside the country. For example in Indonesia, bilingual education is implemented through the development of international schools. The learning process in a high school should to be able to produce graduates who have the ability and compete in international level. The process is expected to equip students with skills, such as organizing learning, collaborating, communicating, researching, learning to think in another point of view, and perform self-evaluation and group learning. In addition, the learning process should be able to SMA BI to equip the learners with awareness of the roles and responsibilities as members of society and responsiveness to the personal, societal, and global level.
To sum up, bilingual teaching uses the mother or tongue language and other languages to develop their ability and to compare what were the students learned in different languages. The children can take the benefit using bilingual program. Besides, the bilingual program can be applied not only in immersion schools but also other schools which have capability to execute the bilingual teaching. So, the students have the same chance to learn the second language.

GBA on English Skill Listening Learning

Education policy for English language teaching in Indonesia has been changed to improve the outcomes of English language teaching itself. One of the curriculum which has been implemented is Genre Based Approach. It is defined a genre as systemic functional linguistics that is concerned with the relationship between language and its function in social settings. There are four steps in GBA to be implemented in the teaching listening. The first step is Building Knowledge of Field (BkoF). This step aims to equalize general knowledge, background, or perception the students have. The teacher has to deliver the introduction about the material that she or he is going to teach to his or her students. The teacher and students build cultural context, share experiences, discuss vocabulary, and so on. For instance they are going to learn about Job Interview’, so the teacher has to explain them what it is about in general about a job interview. The second step is called Modelling of Text (MoT). The teacher could use a conversation, dialogue, talk show program, etc. as the material in listening teaching. This material will be useful for students to learn deeper about an interview. It may include much information about kinds of interview, what the things must be prepared before facing an interview, or the questions might be asked in the interview. So, the more information given by the teacher, the better students’ comprehension might have. In addition, the teacher could give other examples of interview. For instance an interview about selection for exchange student program. In short, at the second stage, students listen and respond to various interviews with similar communicative purposes. The third step is called as Join Construction of Text (JcoT). This step will be useful to gain a brainstorm of students’ opinion. From this step, students are supposed to have an open minded through discussing in the listening section. After students have knowledge about the material, the teacher is supposed to give an instruction to the students of the class to divide into some groups. The groups will discuss about some favourite jobs they want and the responsibilities of each job then they should present what they get. So every student also involved in the speaking and listening process. The fourth step is Independent Construction of text (ICoT). In this final stage, students are ready to work independently to improve their ability in listening. The teacher can let students work on their own. In other words, teachers should minimize their support, scaffolding and interference with students learning process. It will provide students with the opportunity to show their ability to strengthen their skill in listening to some interview questions which might be faced in the future. How far students’ ability and knowledge can be sharpened by doing such an examination or answering questions given by the teacher. The question will measure their comprehension in this material process. It also gains students’ confidence and independence. Briefly, the teacher is able to command her or his students to have a high English skill in listening by using the right step to improve and increase students’ comprehension. Therefore, Genre Based Approach is recommended to be applied to improve English skill listening at learning process.

Thuesday is a day as like as the other day, but I had a good time and a special moment at that day. In the morning , as usual I got up at 5 a.m in the morning. Then I took a prayer, unfortunatelly my mother called me and gave information that my niece was accepted in the International School (SMA 3 Semarang) free of tution. After that my mother also told me about my sister’s grade. I felt happy when I heard the good news. Then, I prepared to study. In the afternoon, I went home at 12.10 p.m and directly went to kitchen because I smelt something bad. Unfortunatelly, I found a well-done egg on the frying pan. Besides, I turned off the gas and shouted out my friend to come. She forgot that she cooked an egg before she did her appointment. So, I asked to be more carefully because it was dangerous. When the land lady came and knew there was trouble about the bad smell, she asked us to give the clearly information. After my friend told her about it, the land lady gave us suggestion. It was the unforgetable moment I got. In the evening, when the rain came, my boyfriend called me and asked me to hang out. Me and My Sister
People think that me and my sister are twins. In fact, we are different. You can see from the hair and the face. She has short hair, a chubby face, slanted eyes, a flat nose, and small mouth. Besides, you can see from the body, she has small hands and fingers, and big tummy. Then, she has small feet. Her short hair does not need a long time to comb. Moreover, her smooth straight black hair seems like a silk when she walks. She is called “cino jowo” by my mom, because her chubby face, slanted eyes, a flat nose, and also a small mouth like a chinese. Besides, her bright skin supports the chinese characteristic. In addition, her small hands and fingers are unique because she is capable to cook. The myth argues that the small hand can produce the delicious food. Nevertheless, she cannot produce the delicious food even she cooks the same food as my mom but the taste is different. Because of her hobby is eating, so she has big tummy. In every place which has traditional food, she has to nibble food or even there is a new restaurant. The other difference is her small feet which have shoes’ size 38. So, her feet are seen not equal with her body because she has 52 kg and 160 cm. She ought to have 39 or 40 for her shoes’ size to equal with her body. Contrasted to me, I have long hair, chubby face, wide eyes, a flat nose, a wide mouth, big hands and long fingers, flat tummy, and big feet. My long hair is wavy straight black. Besides, mine is thicker than her. However, we have a chubby face and a flat nose but they are different. I am not actually chubby face and a flat nose as my sister has. My wide eyes and wide mouth are the most difference to appear. So, you can see what the differences from the face. Even though I do not have as small hands and fingers as her, I can produce the delicious food. So, the myth about the small hands and fingers can produce the delicious food is not true. Even though, my hobby is same as my sister, still I have flat tummy. Then, my shoes’ size is 40 which is I am 58kg and 168cm.
Although we are different, we also have similarities in hobby and appearance. Our hobbies are travelling, look for the traditional food, and shopping. Besides, we also have bad characteristic are take it easy and easy to get mad. Both of us take pleasure in travelling. So, we often travel around Semarang to look for a traditional food. An example soto kebul in Krapyak, lunpia ( the original food) in Johar chinese village, and cenil in Simpang Lima. We have the same style. When we go shopping, I know the clothes that she wants. She likes a simple clothes design and natural color as blue, brown, and black. Both of us wear a veil. When we were Senior High School and we decided to wear a veil to complete our style. In addition, we are similar to make a decision. When we have a problem, both of us always think that was easy to solve. In fact, we cannot solve the problem. For example, my father was angry with us because of me and my sister hang out without asking his permission. We thought that my father did not angry anymore. Unfortunately, till 3 days gone, my father did not talk with us even just say hello. Then, we tried to say sorry about our fault. Besides, her hobby to read some novels is as the same as me. We often read the novel about mom, love, and friendship. The author that we love is Tereliye who is written the best novel we ever read. We are easy to get mad. My mother always said that both of her children as like as devil in a film which have antlers when they are angry. In brief, me and my sister are not twins. We are sisters. Even though we have differentiate but we also have similarities. So, you can differentiate when we walk together.
